По происхождению английское слово XVI в. neger, заимствованное из испанского и португальского NEGRO = черный. Слово широко употреблялось в американском варианте английского языка расистами в США, например "рай черномазых" "nigger heaven" = балкон в сегрегированном кинотеатре, "черномазики" "nigger babies" = конфеты черного цвета и т. д. - 1786, earlier neger (1568, Scot. and northern England dialect), from Fr. nиgre, from Sp. negro (see Negro). It is "the term that carries with it all the obloquy and contempt and rejection which whites have inflicted on blacks." Variant nigga attested from 1925.
